The Independent Artists and Galleries sections make up the Festival's Official Competition Section. A jury composed of people linked to the world of contemporary art will select the best work within each section. These will be awarded the Optica Prize for best video art work.

In addition, the Special Optica's Award and the Young Jury Award will be given. 

The Festival's distinctive awards are a limited series of small sculptures created by the spanish artist dEmo.

Optica's Awards 2006
Independent Artist Award: Jerry King-Musser (USA).
Gallery Award: Jan Fabre, galería MAM (Austria).
Special Optica's Award 2006: Carlos Cid Ruiz, Rafael Pérez Hernando Arte Contemporáneo gallery (Spain).
Young Jury Award: Mariana Vassileva, DNA gallery (Germany).

Optica's Awards 2007
Independent Artist Award: Alessandro Amaducci (Italy).
Gallery Award: Hugo Alonso, Adora Calvo gallery (Spain).
Special Optica's Award 2007: Thorsten Fleisch (Germany).
Young Jury Award: Alette Simmons-Jimenez (USA).
